About the IF-boat

Some IF history The IF-boat was constructed in 1967 by Tord Sundén. In 1970 it was accepted as one design class by Svenska Seglarförbundet. The IF-boat was manufactured at Marieholms Bruk in Småland. Boats has also been manufactured on licence, for instance in Australia.

Of the Swedish made boats about 2225 are sold in Sweden. The rest have been sold abroad, mainly Germany (390), Denmark (325), Norway (135), USA (125), Switzerland (120), and Australia (100). The last fresh from the factory IF-boat was sold in Sweden December 28th 1984 and it had sailnumber 3488.

The boat is robust and has a good second hand value. Most people feel that the boat never loose value. You nowadays find good boats for 45.000 -65.000 kr (SEK).

That is why we are sailing IF

The IF-boat is one of the largest one design classes. It is spread all over the country. Racing with IF-boat can thus be done in one design class at several locations. The location for the Swedish Championship (SM) arrangment is rotating round all of Sweden, so once every five year you will have the possibility of sailing SM in your own region.

The IF-boat is on the winners´ stand, both concerning the number of championship participants and number of starting baots in LYS (Lidingö Yard Stick) races. International championship races are arranged in all of the three Nordic countries. Wherever a championship is arranged, it is always gathering a large starting fields.

About 2200 sailing IF-boats creates a large second hand market for both boats, racing sails and other IF-specific equipment. This and the simplicity and many-sideness of the boat, it constitutes an unbeaten economic alternative to for instance youth and other enthusiastic racing sailors with meagre wallets.

The IF-boat is also a safe cruising- and long distance boat. It has been crossing the Atlantic Ocean and the Nordic See several times. It is secure and easy to sail and carrys its´ sails in all weathers.
