Hi,
I hope everyone is well. I have a question about sail sliders & mast gates.
My boat has always had the boom on a sliding track, but I'm looking at changing to a fixed boom with it set at the lowest point on the mast track. This will stop the top of the mainsail being set too high so it fouls the backstay. I'll then look to set-up a traditional downhaul to tension the luff rather than pulling the boom down. My problem is that the lowest sail slider needs to travel further down, so I want to extend the mast track. I know some modern masts have mast gate/track gate fittings that allow the sliders to travel across the gate - Selden do them for their masts. My mast is an old silver Proctor. I was wondering what solutions other IF owners have for this please?
Here's a picture of my mast's track gate:

Here's a similar solution for a Folkboat: https://www.shapeways.com/product/8TJFG ... t-pg774b-2
I think this is for a traditional/Nordic FB rather than an IF. The measurements don't quite match my mast's track gate.
I've seen other solutions with aluminium strips used to close the track gate.
I hope I've explained this clearly enough, but happy to provide more information.
All the best,
Mat.
